My side of the family is all the way in California, and so it’s not usually easy/cheap/possible for me to see them during the holidays. With Thanksgiving only a week away, it’s arrival makes me miss them even more. I think the term “comfort food” must have been invented by someone who had family and loved ones far away as well, because at this time of year, I really do find “comfort” in the flavors of the season. I cherish the memories of meals and time spent around the Thanksgiving table. Often, I find myself “seeking” out all things turkey and pumpkin to kinda fill that “comfort” void. Luckily for me as one of #DennysDiners, I got the inside scoop on Denny’s limited time “Season’s Flavorites” menu, which happens to be “stuffed” with comfort-filling dishes.
What sounds more comforting than Gingerbread French Toast and sinfully sweet Pumpkin Pancakes? Pick either dish and Build Your Own Holiday Slam™ and it will be served with two eggs cooked to order, hash browns and a choice of two bacon strips or sausage links. Or a Hot Turkey Dipper – tender sliced turkey breast topped with melted Swiss cheese, Onion Tanglers™ on grilled ciabatta bread and served with a choice of stuffing or French fries and a side of cranberry sauce and gravy. The Holiday Turkey & Dressing Dinner – sliced turkey breast, savory stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce served with a choice of two sides and dinner bread, reminds me of my father, telling my mother, “Yes, more cranberry sauce.” And then of course, my mother replying, “You know you’re supposed to watch your sugar.” “It’s ok, more cranberry sauce.”
What’s a holiday dinner without a sweet treat for dessert? Denny’s has Red Velvet Milk Shakes right now, featuring vanilla and red velvet ice cream and a swirl of cream cheese icing, and Red Velvet Pancake Puppies®, made with white chocolate chips and sprinkled with powdered sugar. So good. For a budget-friendly bite, Denny’s offers Pumpkin or Pecan pies for just $2 a slice from the 2,4,6,8 Value Menu®, but why stop at just a slice when you can get a whole pie for just $8.99?
I think I’ll make a FaceTime date with my parents and tell them to go to their neighborhood Denny’s, and I’ll go to mine, and we’ll all order Hot Turkey Dippers, Pumpkin Pancakes and Red Velvet Milk Shakes. A “virtual” Thanksgiving of sorts. My dad can order extra cranberry sauce and my mom can give him the evil eye, and he’ll just say, “It’s ok. More cranberry sauce.” Just like being home. It will be great.
Launched nationwide, Denny’s “Season’s Flavorites” menu is available all day, every day; the menu includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert and late-night items. For more information please visit www.dennys.com. #DennysDiners
