Once again, Denny’s restaurants is partnering with No Kid Hungry to raise awareness and to fight childhood hunger. And here in Miami, the Denny’s restaurant located at 8503 SW 40th Street is a BIG believer in Denny’s No Kid Hungry campaign. So big, as a matter of fact, they were recognized for being one of the top donating Denny’s in all of Miami. So I decided that I needed to talk to this team and find out how they did it. Why were they so passionate about No Kid Hungry’s mission to help end childhood hunger in the U.S.?
Store Manager Armando Moa was nice enough to have a sit-down with Mommy Mafia to talk about No Kid Hungry, the impact the campaign has on our on Miami community and how raising awareness and donations for No Kid Hungry is a true team effort.
Q&A with Denny’s Manager Armando Moa
It’s obvious that your Denny’s Team takes the No Kid Hungry cause very seriously. How do you motivate your team to get the word out about No Kid Hungry and get customers to give so generously? “We talk to the customers about how it helps locally and the coupons* are good for our repeat customers. Customers are also curious about the shirts, so they will ask us why everyone is wearing orange.”
*For just a $3 donation, guests will receive $9 worth of coupons for diner favorites, redeemable at participating locations.
Who is your #1 No Kid Hungry Spotlight employee? The one that really seems to be passionate about the cause? What makes that employee special? “Tina would be number one, but it’s a team effort. They are all great. Bottom line, it’s all one unit.”
What would you like your customers to know about the No Kid Hungry partnership with Denny’s? “It’s all a good cause because it (the money raised) stays here (in Miami). It helps out our local kids.”
So, Armando, what is your favorite Denny’s dish? “The Super Bird.”
What is one thing about you that your favorite customers would never know about you? “I’m a movie buff. Sci-fi, action movies. I could watch movies all day. My favorite is Goodfellas.”
Last but not least, what does No Kid Hungry mean to you? “It’s for a good cause. Thousands of kids go hungry in the United States and this stands up for them.”
I’ve been inspired by superstars Armando, Trainer Company Manager Hernan Roldan, and the rest of the team over at the Bird Road Miami Denny’s location and I am raising money in the name of Mommy Mafia to help fight childhood hunger. I know how fortunate and blessed my family is that my children aren’t faced with something as horrible as hunger. This donation is for my girls.”
