Camp season is already here, can you believe it? While my Little Made Man isn’t quite ready for sleep away camp, I’ve got him enrolled all over town for different camps all summer. Besides the basic extra towels and socks to pack, here’s some Camp and Summer Health tips from MinuteClinic to remember:
Sunscreen! We all know the strength of our South Florida sunshine. Pack a broad spectrum sunscreen (at least an SPF of 15), lip balm and sunglasses for sun protection. Apply sunscreen to your child in the morning before they leave for camp, ask counselors if they will re-apply throughout the day. (Some schools require special permission for this.)
Bug Repellent. Those mosquitos come out in droves this time of year. To help protect little ones from painful bites, make sure your child wears shoes to help minimize the risk of an insect sting on their feet. Remember, insect repellent is not to be used on infants. If your child develops hives or wheezing after an insect sting, it may be due to an allergic reaction. Get medical attention right away.
Medications with dosage instructions. Remember to inform the camp staff of your child’s specific medical needs. If your child has allergies, make sure to inform staff and provide appropriate over-the-counter or prescription medications.
Did you know that MinuteClinic offers quick Camp and Sports Physicals? Their nurse practitioners and physician assistants can review health history and immunizations; Perform a through physical exam and complete required medical forms.
I took the Little Made Man for a MinuteClinic Camp Physical and it was painless for everyone:
- MinuteClinic is currently offering camp and sports physicals for just $39 for a limited time (that’s $20 off!).
- Even if your camp doesn’t require it, it’s important to make sure your little ones are healthy & safe to participate.
