I Love Halloween. But Really, I Just Love Dressing Up My Kid

I just love Halloween. It’s my favorite holiday of the season. There’s spiderwebs on the stairwells, ghosts on the mantle and little strobe lights that cackle when you walk too close. I love the idea of picking costumes and assuming a new identity for the night, be it crazy or creepy. I miss the days of being able to convince my little boo what costume idea I wanted him to choose, I lost that privilege to growing up, and yes, I’m still a bit bitter about it. But it’s still so great to witness him get excited about choosing his halloween costume, watching him dress up, and hear his little voice talk about all that halloween candy bounty that he can’t wait to score.

Now what separates the boo from the boring in the Halloween school parade are the accessories. You don’t want to skimp on the accessories for your little Halloween haunters. Frozen’s Princess Elsa really needs an extra glittery crown, a wand and the sparkly shoes to go with her magical dress. Add a little extra glitter to her hair with hairspray on Halloween night right before she goes trick-or-treating, and she’ll stand out from the princess crowd. Jake the Neverland Pirate? Find a fun, long sword from his toy box or even create one using cardboard and tin foil, make it bigger than he expects, the wow factor is totally worth it.

I’ve also found that I need to make Halloween costume shopping easier on myself. So I prefer to do my shopping at stores like the Disney Store where I can pick the cutest costumes and pick up all the necessary accessories in one stop. They have all the hot costumes everyone wants anyways, like Princess Elana of Avalor (LOVE HER), Star Wars costumes, and of course, all the Marvel Superheroes.
