Mondays have traditionally been our “Mommy & Son” date days for me and The Little Made Man. Generally, we go to a restaurant together, or the mall, or to the candy shop or something “special.” I like to do something a little out of the routine for just the two of us. Today, after school, I asked him if he wanted to have a “Dinosaur Night” with me. No, I don’t normally watch Dinosaur movies, but, I’m a sucker for date night. So, I had a new copy of Walking with Dinosaurs The Movie, I had a new pack of mini dinosaur figures and some printables from the movie’s website. I popped some popcorn, threw some “Dinosaur Eggs” (peanut M&M’s) in it, and we snuggled up in Mommy’s bed.
Walking With Dinosaurs The Movie is like a history lesson taught from the eyes of an 8 year old boy. To engage the (younger) viewer, it also sends an education messages about dinosaurs, how they differed, how they ate, how they traveled. Every time a new dinosaur is introduced, a pop-up screen tells the audience the name and type of dinosaur. To entertain these viewers, it throws in appropriate younger-aged viewer jokes, like “poop showers”, which of course, the Little One giggled at and said, “Ewww Mommy! That’s disgusting, huh?” I have to say, the visuals are incredible. If you have a little one obsessed with dinosaurs and you’re looking for a family-friendly movie, this is it.
