Although the LO has always liked brushing his teeth, there’s been a challenge getting him to brush the full two minutes the dentist recommends. He gets bored, he’s in a rush, or and no matter how I try to explain it, he really can’t comprehend what cavities are and why they’re so bad. I am constantly on a quest to make brushing more fun. Leave it to the experts, Crest, Oral-B and Disney to come up with an app that makes tooth brushing fun for kids.
Disney’s Magic Timer app (FREE in iTunes), works by using the camera on your iPhone or iPad and scanning an image of the character from a Crest or Oral-B Pro-Health Stages product. The Pro-Health Stages brushes and tooth pastes feature plenty of the loved Disney characters to choose from: Planes, Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Winnie the Pooh, Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, etc. and also the Marvel Superhero characters, such as Captain America and Iron Man. All of them will work with the Magic Timer app. Once the character is scanned, the app starts a two minute timer to let kids know how long to brush. Once it’s finished, they get virtual stickers to collect.
The LO loved the idea that his iPad was going to time his tooth brushing. He was so into the whole idea, he didn’t even want to go to the sink in the bathroom, instead wanting to use the app right there and then at Grandma’s kitchen table, So with our new Lighting McQueen tooth brush and tooth paste ready to go, I let him scan the image. Not hard. Totally easy. He giggled the whole time. He finished, and then he wanted to do it all over again! Win for Mommy!
