Is your family affected by Controlled Choice? The Miami Herald wants to hear from you! The Miami Herald has set up a survey for you to have your voice heard for an upcoming story about Controlled Choice. The short questionnaire includes: Is your family or job affected by school choice? Should the school district retain the controlled choice model or do away with it?

Coral Gables is asking the Miami-Dade County Public School District to do away with a system called controlled choice. The Miami Herald wants to know whether parents, students and teachers support or oppose the proposal.
Controlled choice began under a court order as a way to integrate schools. Under the system, a lottery decides where kids will go to school. Coral Gables is the only remaining controlled choice area in Miami-Dade, with Sunset Elementary, George W. Carver Elementary and Coral Gables Preparatory Academy affected.

Hi Mommy Mafia:
The Controlled Choice lottery is a known pain, and needs work. But the City of Coral Gables and School Board are repealing it all together and putting down boundary lines on a map, Vladimir Putin-style. If South and Central Gables only knew that the line for Sunset Elementary is only one block north of the school, they would go nuts, not only about the school boundary but their property values. The map can be viewed here: http://www.gablescentral.com/reader-post-speaker-to-request-city-commission-to-withdraw-request-to-repeal-controlled-choice-at-feb-24-commission-meeting/ .
The Herald opinion inquiry is nice, but this is going down right now this week right under our noses. Please fire up the Range Rover and show up to tell them to slow down for at least another school year to get this right at City of Coral Gables City Hall this Tuesday 2/24 at 2:00 PM; and School Board Attendance and Boundary Committee this Thursday 2/26 at 9:30 AM, School Board Administration Building 1450 N.E. 2nd Avenue, Auditorium Miami, Florida 33132.
Preserve your right to at least try for the school of choice, preserve your property values, and if nothing else, preserve your right to rant!
