Inspire your young artist with a trip to the Miami Wynwood Walls. The former warehouse district is now famous for its street art and larger-than-life murals. Make sure to pack a camera (and encourage the little ones take their own pictures!) because there will be lots of Instagram-worthy moments to capture. You might even be lucky enough to get a glimpse of an artist in mid-creation mode. Start early, and end in time to get a bite to eat at any of the local eateries, such as Joey’s or Wynwood Kitchen and Bar– all within walking distance.
Mommy Mafia tip: While most families will want to plan their visit to this eclectic and artistic neighborhood during daylight hours, save the well-known Art Walk, Second Saturday (Every second Saturday of the month from 6pm-10pm) for a mom and dad date night- it can get a little too crowded for strollers and too overwhelming for the littlest visitors. The Wynwood walls are also a must-do for out-of-towners during Art Week (When Art Basel and Art Miami take over Miami. Generally the first week of December). If you’re a Miami local, skip that week and consider visiting another time.
Teachable Moments: While walking around, ask little ones which art creation is their favorite. What does it remind them of? What is their favorite color in it? How do they think the artist was able to create such a huge masterpiece? What would they paint if they could pant anything on a giant wall?
